On February 12th, 2014, Mike Lackey lost his battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in June of 2013 with a rare and aggressive form of gall bladder cancer. Unable to be surgically removed, Mike underwent extensive chemotherapy and numerous consultations in his short but instense fight to beat the cancer. Unfortunately, the tumor grew quickly and all therapies were unsuccessful in slowing it's growth. In the middle of January, all options had been exhausted and Mike chose to return home and spend the remainder of his days with his family and friends.
Mike was a powerful influence everywhere he went and was dedicated to improving the lives of everyone he met. His positive influence on the world will be greatly missed.
Mike leaves behind his wife Debbi, two sons Shawn and Brandon, his mother Bea, sister Karen, grandchildren Cierra and Logan, as well as his many friends and colleagues.
Mike was buried at the US Air Force Academy Cemetery on Feb 21st 2014 with full military honors. His memorial service was attended by over 180 people. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and for the hundreds of cards we received by the ones who could not. The Lackey family is extremely grateful for all of the help and support we have received.
