Bose QuietComfort (2nd Gen)
Harmony Compatibility Status: Under Review
Bose announced the QuietComfort (2nd Gen) headphones today, and we've already started hearing from pilots asking whether the Harmony System will work with them. Here's where things stand.
Bose made a significant design change with this model that poses a real challenge: unlike every other headphone we currently support, the QuietComfort (2nd Gen) has no analog audio input at all. The only wired connection is a single USB-C port on the right earcup.
That's a problem because every Harmony System we build connects through a standard analog headphone jack to carry your audio and microphone signals. With no analog jack to plug into, there's simply nothing for our hardware to connect to.
The Short Answer
We do not currently support the Bose QuietComfort (2nd Gen). No UFlyMike product available today is compatible with this model, and we do not recommend attempting to adapt an existing Harmony System to fit it.
We're Evaluating It Now!
Our team is reviewing the new model to determine whether a Harmony conversion is feasible. That review looks at the things that matter most in a cockpit: the headphone's electrical characteristics, its physical design and how a conversion would mount to it, and whether it can continue to pass audio if internal power is lost.
We take that last point seriously. As we've written before, a headset that goes completely silent when its battery dies introduces a single point of failure into the one system you may be relying on to talk to ATC. Any decision we make about this model will be weighed against that standard.
If We Move Forward, It Will Take Time
We want to set a realistic expectation up front. If we determine the QuietComfort (2nd Gen) is a good candidate, the design, tooling, and testing work involved would likely take several months before a compatible system is ready to ship. We would rather take the time to get it right than rush a product into the cockpit.
We'll post an update here as soon as we have a decision, either way.
