1. Required equipment for a TSOd UFlyMike:
The TSO combination consists of the UFlyMike
adapter, an approved UM-1 Earbud, and either a QuietComfort-2 or QuietComfort-15 headphone. If any component is missing
or has not been tested as an assembly by UFlyMike, the headset is not TSOd
2. UFlyMike
Adapters capable of being TSOd:
All UFlyMikes made after October 8, 2008 are currently built to TSO standard
and only require assembly testing and the proper labeling. Until Feb 29th, 2012, the Pro, Pro2 and older UFM models can be
retrofitted for TSO approval, after Feb 29th the retrofit service for these models will no longer be available. The
Duo model cannot be retrofitted for TSO approval, sorry.
3. What if I have some
of the required components, but not all?
All components are required for to meet the TSO. The UFlyMike
and UM1 is available from us, we recommend
Crutchfield for purchasing the QuietComfort 15 as they do not charge tax or shipping.
4. How much does
it cost to get my headset TSOd?

will need and the charge to either purchase or retrofit a previously owned component.

5. Will there by any additional charges?
If
we are doing a retrofit and there are any broken, damaged or malfunctioning parts on the UFlyMike, they will have to be replaced
before we can certify the headset. All in-warranty mics will be repaired free of charge, if out-of-warranty, you will
be charged the part cost ($5-$25 dependent on part) and standard repair labor cost of $15. It is up to the discretion
of UFlyMike whether or not a part will need to be replaced to meet the requirements of certification. If you do not
want us to do any repairs on your retrofit please notify us beforehand.
6.
If you certify a retrofit, does it extend my warranty?
No, TSO certification is simply a testing and labeling
process, there has no effect on the product warranty. However, any parts that were required to be replaced in order
to certify the headset will have a 90-day warranty on that part. All adapters are tested for functionality before
being returned to the customer.
7. Why do I need to send in components
to get them TSOd?
The FAA requires that we have all three components (UFlyMike Adapter, UM1 Earbud,
and QC headphone) all together at our shop to test to make sure it meets specification and labeled appropriately.
The entire assembly will then be shipped back to you as a complete, TSOd headset. Note: the unit can still be disassembled
and no modifications are done to the headphones.
8. Will you just send me the labels?
No,
our process is required by the FAA. There is no way to circumvent any of it, so don't ask, we will not make any
exceptions! If your headset has not been through the TSO Process at our shop, you headset is not TSOd and is not legal
for use at any airline requiring the use of TSOd headsets.
